Women suffering with advanced breast cancer have new hope

It appears that a pill known as Tykerb has the power to significantly aid patients dealing with breast cancer. The pill fights the cancer on a genetic level, stopping the cancer from spreading even after the patient ceases responding to the current lead breast cancer drug, Herceptin.

Tykerb attacks only tumour cells, making it very effective for breast cancer patients. It can be taken in the form of a daily pill, and is currently said not to carry along with it serious side effects that are associated with other cancer drugs. Dr. Victor Vogel, is in charge of directing the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Prevention Program and states; "To increase survival for women with advanced breast cancer is absolutely remarkable."

Later this year, GlaxoSmithKline, the London based manufacturer of the drug plans to submit it for approval to the United States Food and Drug Administration in hopes that they can start to market the drug in order to help breast cancer patients.
